On Tuesday 24 February 2026 the Pharmaceutical Society NI launched its Corporate Strategy for 2025-2030 at a meeting of its Council, with Mr Mike Farrar, Permanent Secretary of the Department of Health, in attendance.

The Strategy was developed with engagement and input from a range of relevant stakeholders and sets the key objectives and vision for the Pharmaceutical Society NI for the coming years.

An annual Business Plan will be produced to reflect the various work streams that will be progressed in a given year. Progress will be reported to the Council of the Pharmaceutical Society NI and there will be a mid-cycle review in 2027. Full details on progress made will also be published in each year’s Annual Report.

Dr Geraldine O’Hare, President of the Council of the Pharmaceutical Society NI said:

“This Strategy is the result of work and engagement carried out by our Council, staff team, the pharmacy profession in Northern Ireland, and a wider network of key stakeholders.

“It will guide us in the coming years to be a modern, fit-for-purpose, right-touch regulator of the pharmacy profession in Northern Ireland. I would like to extend my gratitude to everyone who assisted in the development and launch of this document.”

Speaking on behalf of the Department of Health, Mr Farrar said:

“The Department has welcomed the Pharmaceutical Society of Northern Ireland’s Corporate Strategy for 2025-2030. The Department will continue to engage and work with the Society as necessary.”

Canice Ward, Chief Executive Officer of the Pharmaceutical Society NI commented:

“The pharmacy profession continues to undergo significant transformation. As a consequence, the Pharmaceutical Society NI must also transform and modernise to ensure it keeps abreast of the developments within the profession and is able to support pharmacy professionals to deliver safe and effective pharmaceutical care.

“The Corporate Strategy sets out ambitious objectives which will benefit the public and the profession alike and provides a framework for progression.”
