Fitness to Practise Committees
The Pharmacy (Northern Ireland) 1976 Order makes provision for two fitness to practise committees; Scrutiny Committee and Statutory Committee.
Scrutiny and Statutory Committee members are appointed through an independent process for a four year period and must abide by the Fitness to Practise Panel Code of Conduct.
The Scrutiny Committee
The Scrutiny Committee considers concerns about a registrant’s fitness to practise; it has the power to dismiss a case, give advice, issue warnings and agree undertakings, if appropriate. The Scrutiny Committee must refer an allegation to the Statutory Committee if it is satisfied there is a real prospect that the Statutory Committee will make a finding that the registered person’s fitness to practise is impaired or give a direction for disqualification.
