Pharmaceutical Society NI

International Women’s Day 2025 Event

As part of International Women’s Day on Saturday 8 March 2025, the Pharmaceutical Society NI and Pharmacy Forum NI will be running a “World Café” style event at Society House, 73 University Street, Belfast, BT7 1HL.

The event is open to all of our registrants and future registrants. This includes pharmacists, Foundation Year Trainees, and MPharm students.

International Women’s Day is a global day, set aside annually to celebrate the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women.

This year’s theme is “Accelerate Action.”

The Pharmaceutical Society NI and Pharmacy Forum NI want to draw upon the existing expertise in the profession to explore what the future of our profession looks like, and how those changes can be achieved.

The event will be set up as a series of round table discussions each exploring a different theme. Attendees will rotate between tables, ensuring everyone get a chance to take part in each discussion topic.

Hosting the discussions on the day will be:

  • Professor Cathy Harrison – Chief Pharmaceutical Officer for Northern Ireland
  • Professor Sharon Haughey – Queen’s University Belfast
  • Anne McAlister – National Pharmacy Association and Pharmacy Forum NI Board
  • Glynis McMurtry – Federation of GP Pharmacists and Pharmacy Forum NI Board
  • Una O’Farrell – Pharmacists’ Defence Association and Pharmacy Forum NI Board
  • Professor Roisin O’Hare – NI Universities Network and Southern Health and Social Care Trust

Suggested themes include:

  • what does leadership mean to you?
  • obstacles and opportunities to women taking on leadership roles
  • impact of caring responsibilities on career
  • women’s health in the workplace

The organisers welcome your suggestions to add to this.

We invite everyone to stay for a light lunch after the event, to continue the conversation.
